Obituary for Bertha Senick

Bertha Senick
Bertha Senick left to her Father’s house while napping Sunday afternoon following a belated birthday lunch with daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
Born to Alex and Mary Strileski of Winnipeg Beach in 1929. Survived whooping cough at age 2 to go on to see her 87th Birthday on December 7th. Mom moved from the Beach to the family farm at age 5 where she grew up with 7 brothers and sisters. She loved her childhood and readily related the antics which formed her strong character. “My mother and my sisters taught me everything I know.” She was educated to 10th grade, worked in a Winnipeg Beach diner, then moved to Winnipeg to work at Christie Biscuits. At age 22 mom met the love of her life and married in 1956 after a 5 year courtship minus 1 year hiatus “to make sure he was the one!” Children came 4 years later at ages 30, 31, and 33. As a farmer’s wife, she wore love in everything she did from praying for her family to cleaning the pig pens. You visited, you got the full course meal, hungry or not! The flower beds were pristine, the garden plentiful. Children left, the farm was sold, mom began to pray for a growing family and she studied the Bible with absolute resolve, sharing what she learned, her prize student being her husband. Devotedly she was at his side daily during his last 3 years in personal care. Widowed 15 years she spread her love over family in Texas, at home, at church and at Gateway Manor. Some people only had to talk to Bertha once to know they are loved by God and they are special.
Predeceased by her husband Mervyn; loving son Blaine; sister Francis; brothers Mike, John and Peter. Left to celebrate her memories are daughters Janice (Ashraf) and Darlene; daughter-in-law Susan; grandchildren Nathan (Nicole), Denise (Dusty), Leyla, Rhea (Riley), Jamal and Danica; and four great-grandchildren Logan, Kingston, Lauren, Vander. Surviving sisters are Nellie Peyko (Syl), Ann Trach, Rose Desautels (Fern) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon. Interment to follow at Windsor Cemetery, Teulon.
If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to New Life Church P.O. Box 893 Teulon, MB R0C 3B0.
