Obituary for Mae Lenore MacGillivray (Olson)

With heavy hearts, the family of Mae Lenore MacGillivray (nee Olson) announces her passing on August 14, 2016 at Stonewall, Manitoba.
Mae was mother to three children, Lynn (Kevin) Chesney of Abbotsford, BC, Bill (Shelley) MacGillivray of Warren, MB, and Carla (John DePhyffer) MacGillivray of Victoria, BC, and Amma to four grandchildren, Rhys Chesney of Edmonton, AB, Conor MacGillivray of Winnipeg, MB, and Kelsey and Caitlyn MacGillivray of Victoria BC.
Mae was born in Lundar, MB to Bill and Violet Olson. She was the third of the four Olson sisters – Joy, Lil, Mae and Hope. Mae married Carl MacGillivray in May, 1954, living her married life in Warren before moving to Winnipeg after Carl’s death. She was the last of her generation in her immediate Olson and MacGillivray families.
Family always came first with Mae. She will be remembered by all of us for her unconditional love. Mae had many interests throughout her life including travel, sewing, knitting, cooking and baking. To this day, her chocolate log recipe remains the birthday cake of choice. Mae had fond memories of her time as secretary at Warren Collegiate and as a tour escort for Fehrway Tours, careers well suited to Mae as she was a “people person” in the truest sense.
According to Mae’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held at a later date in Warren, MB.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Mae’s memory can be made to a charity of their choice.
