Obituary for Robert Allen Bird
Dad passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, at home with his wife Edith at his side.
He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Edith, children Lynn (Gary), Laura (Ken), Christine (Peter), Mark (Lisa) and Andrea (Alex). Dad was extremely proud of his 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and was a wonderful dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
Dad grew up in the Weston area of Winnipeg and met Mom at one of the local dances at the riding club where he worked. He worked at the Manitoba Telephone System for 37 years until his retirement when he started a few years of bee-keeping. He built the house in Rosser where many barbeques rounded out the family football and volleyball games, bocce tournaments and the annual firework display. He loved having his family around him and cherished the times sitting on the carport - watching whatever game broke out on the lawns he kept trimmed so they were always ready. He lived his life with integrity and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Dad's family would like to thank the wonderful Stonewall home care and palliative care staff for their compassion and understanding, which allowed him to remain at home until the end.
Memorial service will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall on Thursday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m.
