Obituary for Edmond Gerard Dandeneau

Edmond Gerard Dandeneau
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ed, at his home with his family at his side, on Thursday, March 16, 2017, after his battle with cancer. Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley, of 47 years, his son Dean, daughter Tanice Leduchowski (David), son Joe, and grandchildren Autumn Laired, Deneika and Ashton Leduchowski. Ed is also survived by his parents, Gerard and Margaret Dandeneau, sister Anne (Denis) Pantel, David (Huguette) Dandeneau, Denis (Rose-Marie) Dandeneau, Roland (Huguette) Dandeneau, Therese (Bob) Moggey, Noella (Roland) Hoffman, Emma (Tom) Forbes, Diane (Les) Mauthe, Nancy Sinclair, and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his sisters Mary and May Dandeneau. Ed was born in Teulon, Manitoba, and grew up in Fisher Branch, Manitoba on the family farm. His parents taught him the value of working hard, and that is what set the blueprint for his future. Ed got his first violin at a very early age, and that soon began his journey into music. Ed's involvement in playing with local musicians, allowed him to earn money to purchase instruments for his brothers and sisters, which was the start of the Family Six. He was instrumental in managing the band which culminated in a network TV show, and playing for the Queen of England, and sharing the stage with the Irish Rovers. Ed was an honorary member of the Queen of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree assembly. Ed attended Red River Community College and received his journeyman papers for heating/cooling and ventilation, and worked in his trade for several years after. Ed met his lovely wife Shirley while performing with his good friend Bob Ewonchuk at the Windsorian Hotel. This was the beginning of his foray into business, venturing into the hospitality industry. Ed and Shirley bought their first hotel in Bowsman, Manitoba in 1970, and they continued for 35+ years in several locations. Ed was very civically minded, was extremely generous with his time, giving all he had, not expecting reciprocation. He was the President of the Manitoba Hotel Association, and Vice President of the Canadian Hotel Association helping to structure key programs with the Manitoba government to keep many rural hotels solvent. Ed also loved the political arena, and ran a very effective campaign in the Interlake region while he was in Fisher Branch. Ed's love was Shirley and his family, his passion was music, and his hobbies were politics, weather, and aviation. He genuinely wanted to make sure his family, friends, and community were taken care of, and worked tirelessly to accomplish that. Ed was also a very successful business owner in the U.S., and spent a lot of time with friends and family in the Palm Springs area. The family would like to thank Dr. Kotb and his team at CancerCare Manitoba, Dr. Macek, and Dr. Beatty, for helping him with his journey. Father James deBeer will preside the funeral mass celebrating Ed's life on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Drive. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Ed's spirit and energy were infectious, and he will be missed greatly.
