Obituary for Winnifred (Winnie) Alice Fotty (Coomber)

The family announces the passing of our beloved Mother, Nanny, Great Nanny, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
Mom moved to Oakview Place PCH on February 25, 2019. Mom was always the strong determined leader of our family but the ongoing struggles with dementia was something her strength couldn’t overcome. Two days before her 89th birthday Mom fell and broke her hip, she had surgery, returned to the PCH but passed away 5 days later.
In the earlier years, Mom lived in Winnipeg, Morden, Dryden, and Fairford. Mom met the love of her life Alex Fotty, in 1947. They were married on October 7, 1949 and resided in Fairford. They moved to Stonewall in 1988 to be closer to family.
Mom worked in Winnipeg as a Nanny until she married. Once married, Mom was a caring Wife and Mom. After the youngest child started school, Mom went to work, at the CFB Gypsumville as a cleaner until the closing in 1987.
Mom and Dad both worked at CFB Gypsumville, it is there that they made many life long friends. These friends have kept in touch through the years with Mom directly or through us children.
Mom enjoyed cooking, gardening, entertaining, doing the jumble puzzle, watching curling, bonspieling, bingo, casino trips, attending Daniel O’Donnell concerts and meeting Daniel, and listening to Music.
One of Mom’s favorite songs “Could I have this Dance” by Anne Murray will no longer be a sad song as we know Mom and Dad are in each other’s arms… for the rest of their lives…
Mom is survived by her children: Diane (Ed) Petrachek, Alex (Joan) Fotty, Gerry (Dianne) Fotty, Sharon Fotty-Smith, and Colleen Vanasse. 10 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. Her sisters: Anne Springer and Georgina Dibley. Brothers-in-law: Bill (Pat) Fotty, Harry (Carol) Fotty and John (Arlene) Fotty. Numerous Nieces and Nephews, ect.
Predeceased by her husband Alex in 1989, her parents George and Alice Coomber, her in-laws, Mike and Mary Fotty and her Sons-in-law.
The family would like to say thanks to: the caring staff at Oakview Place PCH, Dr Venter and all Homecare staff that helped Mom stay in her apartment as long as possible, All the support and friendship of Mom’s neighbors in Stonewood Place.
As per mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a private family interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2, phone 204 943 6622.
