Obituary for Wilmer Demery

Wilmer Demery

On October 1, 2021, with family at his side, Wilmer passed peacefully in his sleep.

Wilmer was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Nellie, his brother Russell, sister-in-law Ruth, and his sister Margaret. He is survived by nieces Michele Chartrand (Gerry), Cheryl Sherrer, Shelley Demery, Charlene Fordham and her family, along with nephews Lyle Demery (Michelle), Brian Anderson (Alison) and his family and brother-in-law Merv Anderson. Wilmer is also survived by great nephews and niece Nicholas, Tyler, Justin, Brendan, Liam and Audrey.

Wilmer was born in Pleasant Home on August 17, 1931. He and his siblings learned the value of hard work growing up on the farm. There was always music around and Wilmer took a shine to it. He self taught himself to play the fiddle among other instruments. Weekends as a young man were spent at Crabby Steve’s barn where there was always a dance happening. Wilmer’s love of music continued into adulthood and at family gatherings the fiddles and guitars would always make an appearance. This love continued up to the end as he could be heard playing in his apartment.

Another of Wilmer’s favourite pastimes was woodworking. He crafted many beautiful items that his family enjoy. He created beautiful rocking chairs, end tables and magazine racks. One of his favourites was to create wooden cars. He was able to simply use a toy car as inspiration and a beautiful handcrafted piece would follow soon after.

Over the past handful of years Wilmer was slowed by health issues but remained sharp as a tack with his trademark sharp wit and always flirting with the nurses. His suffering is now over, and he has gone home to rejoin his parents and siblings in eternal rest.

As per Wilmer’s wishes cremation has taken place and a small family service will be held.
We love you and will miss you Uncle Wilmer.
