It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Rita passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 86. She has left us to join in heaven, her mother Katharina, and her father Adam, her beloved husband Werner, her son Robert, her sister Gisela in Germany, as well as her brothers Heinz, Willi, and Georg also in Germany.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters in Germany, Waldtraud, Gerda, and Cecilia; her sister-in-law Inge; her son G√ľnter (Lorrine), two daughters Marion (Gilles) and Claudia; her grandchildren Jeanette, Kevin (Shelley), Richard (Jennifer), and Heather, Michael (Fran), and Christine, Karl (Joanne), and Rodney (Leanne); step grandchildren Michael (Sharlene), and Melanie (Paul); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren; step great grandchildren, and friends who will all miss her dearly.
Mom worked the farm with our dad for many years. They later moved to Stonewall where she looked after dad during his illness, until he passed away in 2005. Mom lived alone until she passed away, looking after her home, tending to her garden and flower beds, getting together with her friends for coffee or lunch, dinner and a movie, anything to keep busy. Mom really enjoyed knitting, painting, pottery, and was willing to try any kind of craft out there; she was always working on a project. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and talking on the phone with her sisters and brothers in Germany.
Mom loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Anyone that knew mom, knew of her strength, generosity and kindness.
We would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to the medical staff of the Stonewall Hospital and Dr Pinniger for the care they provided to our mother.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019, at 2:00 p.m, at the MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association.
