Obituary for Margaret Olfert (Veer)

Margaret Olfert nee Veer

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Olfert on January 29, 2020. Margaret was born in Hanover County, Mb on February 22, 1930 to Bernhard and Marie Veer.

Margaret leaves to mourn her husband of 63 years David Olfert and their four children, Constance (Mark) and their four daughters: Gretchen Johnston OSB, Wynnefrid Johnston (son Duncan Brummett), Althea (William) Ridenour (daughters Isabel and Madeleine), Olivia (Matthew) Sjelin (daughters Koren, Persephone, Perryn), Marilynne (Martin) Smith and their son Cameron, David (Rebecca) Olfert and their daughter Katrina and son Riley, and Rod (Ali) Olfert and their daughter Amber (Sivaram) Olfert (daughter Ananya). Margaret was predeceased by her daughter Brenda in 1973.

Margaret and Dave were married on April 28, 1956 in Winnipeg. They spent their lives living and farming in Winnipeg, McCreary, Grosse Isle, and Woodlands, finally retiring to Stonewall. Margaret was a hard working housewife and mother as well as a foster mother to numerous foster children throughout the years. Mom was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and scrabble. Mom put in a huge garden every year and reserved all types of fruits and vegetables. She was also known as an excellent cook, and was famous for her homemade bread and buns that seemed to be consumed faster than they could be baked.

Mom spent the last four years living and being cared for by the amazing staff at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall. We are extremely thankful to all of the staff and the doctors for their kindness and care.

Funeral service will be held on Friday February 7, 2020 at New Life Baptist Church in Stonewall MB. Viewing at 11:00 a.m., service at 12:00 noon, interment and lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall, Parkinson Canada, or a charity of your choosing.
