Obituary for Kathleen Lindsay
KATHLEEN LINDSAY
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kathleen Lindsay on September 9th, 2022, at West Park Manor.
She is survived by her best friend and loving partner of 50 years Doreen Mork and Doreen’s family; she was “Auntie Kath” to her niece Sharon Van Kemenade (Bernie) and nephew Jim Lindsay (Susan) and their large extended families. She was predeceased by her parents James and Annie, her brother Charlie and his wife Betty, and sister Christina Paul.
Kathy was born in Winnipeg and raised on the family farm, first in Rosser and then in Grosse Isle. She worked hard on the farm as a teenager and later moved to work in Winnipeg. Her dream had always been to be a nurse so in her early 30’s she quit her job and went back to school. She graduated in 1972 as an LPN and started work immediately at the Winnipeg Municipal Hospitals (now Riverview) where she happily worked with the elderly for 25 years before taking early retirement.
Kathy loved music, was an accomplished accordion player and was a member of a trio entertaining at many dances and weddings. She was an avid sports fan and participant. She especially loved baseball and was a star Catcher for the St. Vital Tigerettes of the Winnipeg Senior Girls Softball League for a number of years, curled for many years and was a member of the “8 ender’s club”. She was a huge fan of the Blue Bombers, Jets and Goldeyes. She also had season tickets to the Manitoba Theatre Centre and Winnipeg Symphony Pops Concerts for many years.
Camping was another one of Kathy’s favourite things. Many trips were made out west to visit friends, first in a tent, then camper trailer, and finally towing a small trailer. Friends used to make fun of us for taking four to five days to get to Calgary, but it was the journey and sitting by the campfire with a brew that was fun.
Kathy also loved to travel to warm places in the winter such as the Caribbean, Hawaii and on several cruises. Another winter pleasure was the trips for a week to Inverness Falls Resort for cross country skiing and long walks on quiet peaceful days.
Though she had some health issues over her latter years, she always remained positive and had a big smile for everyone, as well as a witty little joke or saying.
Thank you to the staff at West Park Manor for their kindness and care looking after Kathy for the time that she was there. Also, a big thank you to Karen and Noreen for always being there.
There will be a private family interment in Grosse Isle.
