Obituary for Julianne Hay

JULIANNE HAY

January 26, 1945 – January 25, 2021

Julianne Hay passed away peacefully on January 25, 2021 at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. She had been living there since 2017 following a stroke.

She was born on January 26, 1945 in Carroll, Iowa, the second child of Norman and Garnet Hall.

Julie was later raised in Sioux City, Iowa, but moved to Tacoma, Washington in the mid-1960s when the family relocated to the Pacific Northwest.

In 1968, Julie married Cpl. Ronald A. Hay, who was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces stationed at McCord Air Force base south of Tacoma. The married couple resided in Lakewood, Washington, and then moved to Kamloops, BC, where Ron was next stationed and where son Ross was born. After a subsequent duty assignment to Moosonee, Ontario, the family settled permanently in Winnipeg.

Julie’s career started in the 1960s, when she trained to become an X-ray technician. Further medical training led her to a long career as an ultrasound technician. She worked many years at Selkirk and District General Hospital before retiring in the early 2000s. Following retirement, Julie used her skills to assist local veterinarians by performing ultrasound scans on dogs and cats, to aid in pets’ diagnosis and treatment.

From a young age, Julie was a talented musician and especially enjoyed playing the piano and later the violin. She loved performing with other musicians, and eventually prepared two books of fiddle duets to share her love of music with others.

Julie is predeceased by her father and mother, Norman and Garnet, and by her husband Ron. She is survived by her dedicated and loving son Ross; her grandson Ryan; her brothers John Hall and Rick Hall; and many other family members and friends who loved her. We will all miss her kindness, sense of humor, and musical talents.

A special thank you goes to the staff of the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg who cared for Julie during her final years.
