Obituary for Johnny (John) Persowich

Johnny (John) Persowich
December 21, 1945 – February 23, 2020

Very tired after a long hard battle with cancer, John passed on Sunday. Very “fitting” because he always considered Sunday “A DAY OF REST’.

His wife Joyce of almost 53 years and daughters Shannon and Roxanne, sons-in-law Rudi and Kory and all his beautiful grand boys Milo, Kaspar, Abel and Tawney spent the last days constantly by his side reassuring him that he was not alone. During his years of struggle, he also had a constant stream of family and friends come visit to show their love and support.

Son of Marion and John he was born in Sirko, MB. His family included Christina (Alex), David and Andrea, his twin Judy (Jim deceased), Stacy, Kelly, Laurie, Patricia (deceased), Mark, Matthew, Michael, Jackie (Bob), Dano and Gina, Gary (Bonnie), Anasia and Alex, Irene (Jan), Paul and Darin, Edward (Christine), Evan, Brianna and Meagan.

He also loved Joyce’s family Sonia (Edward), Monika, Maria, Patricia (deceased) (Kent), Natasha, Joanne (Johann), Johann Jr., Amelia (Mark), Robyn.

John enjoyed his life working hard on the farm before going to work for CP Rail. He took a heavy-duty mechanics course at Red River and worked in this career till he eventually settled with Canada Post, first as sorter and then Postmaster for 35 years. After retirement he enjoyed jobs at Gunn’s Bakery, Teulon Golf Course, Janitor at PO and loved helping his son-in-law Rudi at their farm.

He joined the Lions Club for 10 years. Volunteer at Teulon Fire Department for 17 years, coached his girl’s baseball and volunteered in many clubs.

His hobbies included restoring cars and playing with his classic cars. He ran and cycled in Marathons, played baseball, golfing, curling, carpentry. He had a beautiful voice and played a guitar and sang, loved carolling and entertaining family and friends. He also loved to dance with Joyce, and they would tear up any dance floor.
Over the years he also loved his many travels with Joyce and girls. John loved his road trips travelling to 48 states and nine provinces.

A huge thank you goes out to Dr. K. Graham and all the wonderful staff at Stonewall Hospital for taking such good care of John.

Celebration of life will take place Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Teulon Rockwood Hall at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
