Obituary for Johanna Elisabet Auguste Glas

JOHANNA ELISABET AUGUSTE GLAS
While taking turns by her side, Bruce, Tabitha, Travis, Haley, Tyson Oughton and Winfried Glas, Johanna peacefully, on October 26, 2020 was welcomed into Heaven with open wings.
Mom was born May 5, 1930 in Germany. She survived a war and became a tough adventurous woman. In her early twenties she travelled to England with her sister Kate, together they worked in a hospital as nurse’s aids. Mom had a dream of seeing Canada and made that a reality. There she worked as a dental assistant and waitressed at a German restaurant “The Happy Vineyard” where she met and fell in love with Winfried. Together they built a family and a business. They owned and ran “Tops Restaurant” in Winnipeg. From there they decided to move to Inwood and start a farm from scratch.
Mom worked in the community as a home care aid. In her spare time of running out meals to the field, helping with barn chores she found time to craft, crochet, knit, bowl and even attempted golf. She was on the Inwood WI Committee helping with community events and she wore the Red and Purple Hat. Her and a few friends routinely played cards for pennies, had scheduled outings with her sisters Kate Kelly and Annemarie Liljegren and made several gambling trips to the US with Dad. She still found time to attend all special events for her children and grandchildren.
The last several years, Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer. During this she suffered two strokes decreasing her mobility but with her determination she managed to wheel around and visited all the residence in the care home until she couldn’t anymore.
Mom aka Dolly will be missed by all who knew her. Thanks to Rosewood Lodge staff, Stonewall Palliative Care, and Dr. Graham.
