Obituary for Jean Kosie

On Thursday, August 12, 2021, Jean passed away peacefully at Holy Family Home at the age of 95.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Ken (Jeanette); daughter-in-law Nancy; her grandchildren, Brent (Nicole), Rachelle (Chad), Laurie (Ashley) and Erik; great-grandchildren Caidyn, Carsen, Jaxon, Camielle and Max; as well as her sisters Sophie and Joyce.

She was predeceased by her husband John; son Barrie; three brothers, Fred, Mike and John and five sisters, Katherine, Natalie, Sally, Bernice, and Mary.

Jean was born in Zbaraz, MB on April 15, 1926. She married John in 1948, they resided in Zbaraz, then later moved and farmed in Fisher Branch, MB. Looking for a new challenge, in 1964 they bought the Coffee Corner restaurant in Arborg, MB which they operated for twenty-four years. In 1988, they sold the restaurant and retired to an acreage in Silver, MB. Together with John they maintained a well manicured yard, planted a large productive garden and kept flower beds that were alive with colorful flowers. Petunias were her favorite flower. Their final retirement years were spent in Arborg, MB.

We will always remember her as a hard working, energetic and social person. She loved to cook and looked forward to entertaining. There were always plenty of perogies, cabbage rolls and meatballs at our family gatherings.

Mom also enjoyed travel and often spoke of her trips to Las Vegas, Mexico and Hawaii. Her spoon rack proudly displayed her souvenir spoons from each trip.

Jean always had lots of energy and was a good sport. In retirement, she enjoyed curling, golfing, cross country skiing and even took up swimming lessons! The TV was always on in her home. The Young and the Restless and The Social were two of her favourite programs to watch. She also enjoyed a good "romantic" movie.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Holy Family Home, St. Martha's Unit for the loving and compassionate care that was provided to Jean during her stay. Also, thank you to Father Bohdan Lukie for his prayers and blessings.

Due to continued COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Holy Family Home or a charity of your choice.
