Jan Kubicek
Obituary

With sadness we announcing the passing of our Father and Grandfather Jan, or John to his Canadian friends.

Dad was born in Brno, Czechoslovakia. He lived, work and married there until 1968. That year there was tremendous upheaval and the family chose to immigrate to Canada.

In Canada, Dad worked long hours to provide for his family. He started out working for Bristol Aerospace and then worked for Canadian National Railways until his retirement. He also worked second jobs to be able to get further ahead and purchase his own home.

One of Dad’s passions was speed swimming. Not only did he compete with a seniors group but he would also become a coach and would guide future speed swimmers.

Dad was a member of the Canadian Czech-Slovak Benevolent Association, where he enjoyed many years of picnics, social events and movie nights. He truly enjoyed the many events and all his friends.

Dad took vacations in Canada and to the United States. After retiring, Dad visited the Czech Republic many times. His adventures also included trips to France, Egypt and Germany. With all his visiting he re-acquainted with family and friends, while also making new friends.

Dad had joked that if he wouldn’t have become a machinist, he would have loved to become a forest ranger. That explains his love for the outdoors, taking Yukon boating excursions and Texas Czech festivals.

The family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to all care givers from the Grace Hospital.

Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
