Obituary for Harry Kosowan

HARRY KOSOWAN

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Harry Kosowan on March 8th, 2021 in Stonewall, MB at the age of 80 with his wife Jeannette and daughter Melodie by his side. Born on July 9th, 1940 in Gardenton, MB. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Harry was predeceased by his by his parents, John and Pauline Kosowan, his brothers David, Tony, George and Bill and his son Jamie.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 17 years, Jeannette Kowalenko, his daughter Melodie, his sister Bernice and brother in-law Albert, his brother-in-law Orest and sister-in-law Beatrice, his sisters-in-law Mary, Annette and Joan, his stepchildren, Alexandra (Jeff), Brian (Cheryl), Dan (Carol), and his grandchildren Kage, Zane, Ashton, Samara and Alexander as well as countless other family and friends.

After a successful career in education spanning over 50 years, Harry retired from teaching. Not one to sit idle he began working part-time at Northern Goose, which he really enjoyed, before he retired completely giving him more time in his flower garden. Always the thoughtful and caring husband to Jeannette, even after 17 years, It wasn't unusual for him to give her a bouquet of flowers or breakfast in bed for no special occasion. Together He and Jeannette spent countless hours puttering around their yard, gardening, having a BBQ or just spending time together.

Always a proud father, he loved spending time with his kids. Harry looked forward to cruising the town's with his son looking at tractors and old cars. It was special, quality time that he dearly missed after Jamie's passing. He was always excited and looked forward to visits from his daughter, Melodie, who would often surprise him with wonderful experiences such as Jets games, Bomber games, Cavalia, lovely restaurants or just a relaxed, cozy night at home. The highlight for Harry was always just being together and spending quality time with his daughter.

Harry was also a very caring and loving stepfather who went out of his way to be kind, understanding and supportive. It wouldn't be a big surprise for Alexandra to look out of her window and see Harry planting more flowers in her yard or walking in with a couple cases of kraft dinner and Poweraids just because the kids loved them. Everyone looked forward to Harry bringing his famous ribs to Brian's and Cheryl's family get togethers

Harry's ribs and pancakes were second to none. There was never a tool that Harry didn't own and he was always happy to lend them out, as long as you could find it.

Harry was an amazing person on every level but he really shined as a Gido (grandfather). His grandkids could always count on his support and love. Kage and Gido spent countless hours watching sports together. The Jets, The Bombers, The Raptors and The Blue Jays as well as curling and even some golf. They cheered together, shared the happy moments and the disappointing moments together. Even when they weren't together Kage could count on Gido to call him up to share in the win or occasional loss. Zane always loved when Gido took him to the snake pits or when he'd rig up the riding lawnmower (no blade attached) to pull him around the yard in a wagon. Samara being the only girl grandchild would regularly get surprise gifts that Gido picked out himself. Samara always loved staying over at Grandma and Gido's because she got to stay up late watching the wildlife channels with Gido. Alexander is only 4 now but he will never forget Gido. They spent a lot of time together so much so that everytime Alex went home Gido would give him money (note) and when Alex began talking he called money 'Gido tickets', and still does. That always made Harry laugh and gave him great joy.

We are grateful that we had Harry in our lives and he will continue to help shape the rest of our lives with all the love and support that he has given.
We love you Harry and you will always be missed.

Thank you, Harry. I am so grateful and thankful that I had you in my life. You are Gido to my kids. We will miss the trips to the snake pits, the ice cream, the cases of kraft dinner, the calls when the Jets score or the Raptors win but most of all we will miss you. The love that went into everything you did is always with us. From day one, you loved Kage, Zane, Samara and Alex like blood. You celebrated their milestones and took pride in being their Gido. You were always there to help me up in my hardest times and celebrate with me in my happiest times. Always supportive. Always accepting. We are blessed to have had 17 years with you and an eternity in our hearts. Rest now and know that you are loved. ❤️ Love Always, Alexandra
