George Hibbert
Surrounded by his wife and children, George Hibbert peacefully passed away on October 23, 2022, at the age of 88 years, at the Arborg and Districts Health Centre.
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Loretta (nee Sigurdson), his sons, Roger (Kim), Perry (Genni), and Cory (Leanne), beloved grandchildren, Lauren (Steve), Brent (Kerri), Kirsten (Andrew), Mackenzie, Jayden, and great granddaughter, Emily. He will be missed by his brother, Fred (Christine), and sister, Lynn McEachern (Wayne), and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, by his son, Dean, in February 1982, and his sister-in-law, Colleen Kilbrei, in April 2021.
George was born June 3, 1934, in Sylvan, MB to Henry and Sigga Hibbert. He and Loretta were married in 1960 and at that time began farming with his family. When his dad retired from farming in 1966, George and his family remained on the home farm until his health forced him to retire in 1998. He and Loretta then moved to a pretty acreage on the outskirts of Arborg which they enjoyed for many years.
For a number of years, George and his coffee buddies would meet at the Co-op coffee shop to exchange happenings around town, and a lot of the world’s problems were brought to light. He especially enjoyed playing tricks, sharing jokes that he pulled out of his back pocket, and teasing the ladies who sat at the next table. George will be remembered for his warm, mischievous smile and quick wit.
His biggest treasure in life was his family. He proudly shared stories of all his boys and their families. Becoming a grandpa was a special day for him. He adored his grandchildren and each one held a special place in his heart. Many memories were going for drives, playing in the yard, driving the lawn tractor, and having sleepovers.
His greatest love in his life was Loretta. They shared 62 years together filled with love and respect for one another. Countless happy days were spent working side by side on the farm, going on fishing trips with friends, and attending local old time dances.
We as a family are eternally grateful to Dr. John Rabson, cardiologist, for the many years George was under his care. A special thank you to Dr. Donnelly, Natalie and Brittany at the Icelandic River Health Clinic who went above and beyond with their care and compassion for George, the nurses and staff at the Arborg Hospital, and last but not least, his very faithful Home Care workers who enabled him to remain at home until his very last day.
As per George’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made in memory of George Hibbert to the Cardiac Program in care of the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, Cardiac Program, C1026- 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2H 2A6.
