Obituary for Gwen Griffin

Eva Alice Gwendyline “Gwen” Griffin (nee Jones)

On April 29, 2022, Eva Alice Gwendyline “Gwen” Griffin (nee Jones), of Woodlands passed away peacefully at Teulon Hospital at the age of 97 years. Gwen was lovingly called “Nana” by not only her own family but also friends and neighbours, both young and old.

Nana is survived by her sons: Rob (Cindy) and Doug (Karen) and grandchildren: Kevin (Elaine), Melanie (Dakota), Cole (Becky), Sarah (Carson), and Connor (Janessa). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Daxton, Kaelynn, and Bryson. Nana is also survived by sisters-in-law: Ruth Gee, Muriel Taplin and Jean Griffin, special niece: Peggy Williams, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gwen was the seventh child born to the late James Watson and Sarah Elizabeth Jones of Warren. Siblings: Jean Davies, Margaret Flostrand, Ben Jones, Martha Hunter, Tommy Jones, Susie Hunter, Pearl Watson, and their spouses predeceased her.

Gwen married the late Harvey Hunter of Warren in 1946, who predeceased her in 1953. In 1956, Gwen married James Griffin and they lived and farmed together just outside of Woodlands. Gwen was predeceased by her loving husband Jim in 2000.

Nana loved all children and throughout the years, would regularly donate hats, mittens, and warm socks to the local elementary school during the winter months so that if any child misplaced or forgot theirs, they would not be cold. Nana continued to contribute and attend Christmas concerts long after her grandchildren had finished school, enjoying her “bonus” grandchildren. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan and supporter, often chauffeuring them to their sports or after school events and constantly baking muffins and cookies for them continuing into their adult years.

Nana was a caring, kind, and generous person and always there for her family and friends. She always talked about “family” and reminisced about growing up on the farm with her siblings.
We would like to thank Candace and team of nurses and support staff at the Teulon Hospital for their compassionate care of Nana over the past few months. Cremation has taken place and there will be a small family service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Warren/Woodlands Daycare Expansion Project and sent via e-transfer to warrenexpansion@gmail.com or cheques made payable to: Woodlands Childcare Inc. and sent to 91 Porteous Ave Woodlands, MB R0C 3H0

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
O yes, these things I too will miss.
