Obituary for Eileen Kathleen Mazur

EILEEN KATHLEEN MAZUR
(nee DUTKYWICH)

Ever so peacefully, as she was in life; Eileen passed away with her family by her side on March 8, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer at the Arborg & District Health Centre. Mom has gone on to join Dad who passed away a short four and a half months ago.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Angela, Donald, and Karen & Colin and her most precious grandsons Patrick, Gavin and Chad Finnsson, her sister Stella Gombola, brother Tony Dutkywich, sister-in-law Alma Mann, special nephew Larry (Shirley) and numerous nieces and nephews across Canada.

Eileen was born on April 21,1932 to Steven and Katherine (Zimmerman) Dutkywich at the family home in Rossburn, MB. She completed her schooling there and taught for a couple of years as a permit teacher before going to Provincial Normal School in Winnipeg, graduating in June of 1954. Her first teaching position after graduation was in the Burdett School District. The following year, she ventured away from her home district to the Interlake region and accepted a position at the New Star School in the Poplarfield area. Mom taught at New Star for two years 1955 and 1956, and it was during this time she would meet her future husband Joe Mazur.

Mom & Dad married in October of 1956 and settled on the family farm, where they would spend the next 64 years together working side by side. They had three children within three years, she was an incredibly busy woman. Although mom never operated a moving vehicle, she did her fair share of stacking and pitching square bales, milking cows, feeding the pigs and chickens as well as maintaining the house and looking after the family. Mom would eventually go back to teaching, as a substitute teacher once the children were older.

Mom was a great cook; she had endless cookbooks and was always searching for and trying new recipes and they were always a hit. Grandma’s perogies and baking were the favourites with her grandsons! Grandma and Grandpa would babysit from time to time and her little boys learned how to play scrabble, crib, Kings in the Corner and other card games; and Grandma always had a puzzle going to pass the time away.
Mom, like Dad was an active member of the Poplarfield Community Centre, although not to the extent that Dad was, but she did what she could without a drivers’ license. Mom & Dad moved to Arborg in 2013 and Mom enjoyed her life in Town. I would often hear sightings of her out and about. She made many new friends at the Arborg Lodge and took part in floor curling and Bingo and just enjoyed being able to get out on her own. Mom was selfless and dedicated to her family and friends, her door was always open for a visit and coffee and food at the ready.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, nursing and support staff at the Arborg and Gimli hospitals for the exceptional care Mom received while she was there. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arborg Hospital Auxiliary at Box 301, Arborg, MB. R0C 0A0, or to a Charity of one’s choice in Memory of Eileen Mazur.

Due to COVID, the funeral service will be held at a later date.

Our hearts are broken but we have our memories, we will cherish them forever. Love you – Always! Rest in Peace.
