EDWARD LAWRENCE VANDEKERCKHOVE
With broken hearts and broken dreams, we sadly announce the passing of Edward Lawrence Vandekerckhove, our husband, dad, and grandpa on September 10, 2021.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dawn, his son Kevin, grandson Kylan; daughter Kristi (Ryan Desjarlais); brothers Dennis (Kerry), Jerry (Tammy); brother-in-law Jack Campbell (Rosalie); sisters-in-law Dale (John Fox), Debbie (Gord Deprez), many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Leon and Evelyn, sister Bonnie and brother-in-law Jim Buckle, sister Judy Campbell, and in laws Emil and Lydia Grandmont.
Ed was born on July 10, 1957 in Winnipeg, MB and grew up in and remained in Stony Mountain his entire life. His first job was at the local quarry, and then on to the family tradition of selling cars, first at Wiley Mercury, then Landau Lincoln Mercury, then Mcphillips Lincoln Mercury, followed by successfully running his own business Ed Vande Auto Sales Inc for the past 20 years. Through his company he also managed the exporting of vehicles for Jim Gauthier Cadillac.
Besides his love for selling cars, Ed loved curling with his family and friends in many bonspiels and at the Stony Mountain Curling Club, which he was an executive member for many years. He enjoyed camping trips with his family and coaching both his kids in baseball.
He enjoyed the numerous trips we went on to Las Vegas and Shooting Star Casino, and betting on the ponies at the racetrack.
Ed loved goose hunting and fishing, and established the Stony Mountain Curling Club Goose shoot, which helped the community in various areas.
Ed had the “gift of the gab” and acquired numerous friends and colleagues wherever he travelled.
As per Ed’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family internment and gathering will be held.
We would like to thank MacKenzie Funeral Home for their care and compassion for guiding us through such a difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donations can be made to the Stony Mountain Community Association, at Box 449 Stony Mountain, MB R0C 3A0
We will love and miss you every day.
