Obituary for Edna Valen

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend Edna Valen on November 3rd, 2019 at the St Boniface Hospital at the age of 69 years.
Edna leaves to mourn her two daughters Lisa and Tammy Valen, her grandson Anthony Smaldon as well as her honorary adopted daughters Shannon Scott and Lacey Clarkson. Also mourning her passing are her sister Myrtle (Stanley) Thompson and five brothers Albert, Norman, Melvin (Lorraine) and Emery (Cheryl) Stagg and William (Lena) Franklin. Edna also left her sister-in-law Gloria (Adam) Anderson, and brothers-in-law Brian (Yvonne) and Murray (Norma) Valen to mourn as well.
Edna was predeceased by her beloved husband Gordon on July 21st, 2019. Her parents John and Mary Stagg and brothers Samuel, Daniel, Leonard, David, Alex John Stagg and Ernest Sumner and sister Emma Stagg. As well as her in laws Myrtle and Peter Valen and brother-in-law Douglas Valen.
Edna was always willing to help others; she loved her daughters and her grandson very much with all of her heart. She was a woman who was very humble, kind, funny and loveable. She had a great sense of humor, she greeted everyone she met with a hug and a kiss. She loved her little dog Cindy Lou just as much.
Over the years Edna held different jobs such as a catererpacker and childcare worker. Her recent job was working with Peguis Child and Family Services as a case aide. Edna took great joy in supporting families and children. Edna enjoyed going to church, singing the gospel and loved testifying and offering encouragement to the congregation.
Our family would like to thank Seven Oaks Renal Program, Stonewall Hospital and Homecare staff who attended our home to care for Mom (Tyler, Tammy, Britt), St. Boniface Hospital for taking good care of Mom in her final days. Thank you to her niece Gaylene Hudson who was always there for our mother in her time of need.
Also thank you for all who came to support us at the hospital during our difficult time. We would like to thank the Valen and Stagg Families who supported us throughout the loss of our dear mother.
A special thank you to friend’s past and present who have offered support and kind words, the friends that mom and dad made from their favorite place, the Sun Valley Restaurant. Thank you to the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and staff of Peguis Child and Family Services who were her work family.
