Obituary for Colleen Gayle Kilbrei (Sigurdson)

COLLEEN GAYLE KILBREI
May 24th, 1946 – April 9th, 2021

It’s with profound sadness to announce the passing of Colleen Gayle Kilbrei (nee Sigurdson) on Friday, April 9th, 2021.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her husband Harold, children Michelle (Lloyd), Ross (Samantha), Stacey (David). Grandchildren, Spencer, Travis, Laura, Landon, Taylor, Tyson, Cason & Madden, sister Loretta Hibbert (George), sisters-in-law Margaret, Grace & Yvonne, numerous nieces & nephews, her band members, very close friends and family.

Mom was born May 24th, 1946 and raised on the family farm, Stord, Framnes, along with her parents, John & Gudrun Sigurdson and sister, Loretta. Always outside, barefoot, and playing with her many pets and spending time with her cousins & swimming in the river. She loved to be with her Dad and “wait for the truck to come around the corner” so she could ride with him in his gravel truck. Her incredible musical talent carved her into an accomplished accordion player & outstanding musician. Her PASSION was her music and her band “The Telstars”. She began playing in a band with her uncles and cousins at a very young age at her cousins wedding. “The Telstars” popularity has spread throughout the province, legions, old time dances at the local Community Centres and beyond. Her band members were like her brothers! They all had a bond & friendship that was unbreakable. She was most proud when they made a CD of their music for all to hear. You could always hear mom pull into your driveway as her music would be blaring out of her car. The Telstars had continued to play right up to the restrictions of this pandemic.

Mom & Dad married September 26, 1964 and took on the family farm at Stord, Framnes and raised all 3 kids there as well. It was always fun on the farm from big holiday family gatherings (especially Christmas), having dinner in the field, going to Hnausa for a swim after a long day in the back of the truck (singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall), hauling pigs to Wpg and mud fights while digging out the potatoes to name a few.
Mom was actively involved in many clubs, Kinettes, Sno Runners & Figure Skating club. She also spent countless hours making many carnival, skating, Halloween and parade costumes and making decorations for floats for parades and carnivals, participating in all fundraisers, teaching the accordion & playing at bridal showers.

Mom enjoyed always “going for coffee” to the neighbours, going for drives with Dad, visiting with her Best friends, getting all “dolled up” to play in the band and of course going to watch “the kids”! She worked hard on her beautiful flower beds and gardens and in the field and barn then off to work at either The Co-op, Post Office or volunteering as a First Responder for 20 years in the community.
She was graciously involved with her Church and loved teaching Sunday school and taking her grandkids along. She was a strong, selfless, caring and kind, small but mighty woman that had a passion of putting her family and friends first. You were always greeted with a contagious smile, a hug and a genuine interest in how you’re doing. Mom was a social butterfly, always first to start a conversation with everyone she met. To know her was to love her. Moms pride and joy were her kids and grandchildren. She’d do anything and everything for them. Playing cards and board games, late night texts and pick-ups, supporting them and spoiling them, being at absolutely every possible event for all of them...sometimes 4 different places in one day...eh Mom!...and with her beloved Princess by her side. Mom loved life and lived every second of her 75 years to the fullest. She was never without a smile on her face, she brightened the day and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her love spread so far in this world it was unbelievable how many people’s lives she touched. Love you more Mom!

Oh yeah...don’t worry mom, we all remember how to blow our noses! 😘

A tremendous thank you to the staff at GIMLI Memorial HOSPITAL and CancerCare Gimli for taking such wonderful care of our Mom (Amma).

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your charity of choice or consider smiling at everyone that passes by, just like Mom.

A private service was held at The Arborg Community Cemetery, on Sunday, April 18th, 2021 at 2:00pm.
