Obituary for Cecile Breland (Welsh)

CECILE BRELAND(WELSH)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecile Breland (nee Welsh) in the early morning hours of February 15,2021 at the age of 93 years. Mom passed peacefully at home where she wanted to be, surrounded by her family and loyal companion her dog Jena. Cecile was predeceased by her husband Rene (Duke) Breland in 2003 and her son Robert in 2011.

Cecile is survived by her daughter Linda Wilson (John), son David (Lorna). Grandchildren Trevor (Tracie), Nicole Wilson, Deanna Breland. Great grandchildren Sven and Eden Bowman. Step grandchildren Bernadette, Caitlyn. Step great- great grand granddaughter Kayiah. Cecile is also survived by three sisters Agnes Klippenstein, Theresa Leochko and Rita Neumann; sister in-law Annette Welsh and many nieces and nephews.

Cecile was born March 29,1927 on the family homestead in the Burnt Lake (Chatfield) area of the Interlake to Edmond and Bertha (Pagee) Welsh. Cecile along with her 10 siblings Frank, Leo, Yvonne, Agnes, Elizabeth, Helene, Albert, Theresa, Teddy and Rita were raised during very difficult times and faced many hardships while growing up on the farm.

Mom and Dad were married February 24,1949 and raised three children on the Burnt Lake Farm. Mom worked in Winnipeg for a short time before returning to the farm to raise her family. Mom was a homemaker and a very determined, independent person. Dad was often away working and for many years Mom lived on the farm raising us children without the luxury of electricity, running water or telephone service. Mom was a woman who would go hunting with her single shot .22 and come home with small game for dinner. The farm was a mixed farming operation and Mom provided much of the food from gardens and livestock raised on the farm. Raising a family in Burnt Lake during these times was challenging and Mom always managed to make her home a loving and caring place. Mom and Dad moved to the Poplarfield area in 1975 where Mom remained until her passing.

Special Thanks to Lorna LaRocque Breland and Evie Stoess for their special care, compassion and love in helping Mom to be able to stay at home until the very end.

In accordance to her wish’s cremation has taken place.

Due to Covid restrictions a grave side service will be held when we can gather together again.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Charity of your choice.
