Obituary for Cecil Major

Cecil Major

Cecil Major of Stonewall, passed away after a short illness on August 14, 2022.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Lorraine of almost 64 years; children Victor (Candice), Wayne (Linda), Kevin (Xin), Glen (Cheryl) Major, Heather (Kevin Pederson); along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his brother Dean (Alfreda), Garry (Marlene); and sister Mary (Vince).

Born in Deer Lake, Newfoundland on January 31, 1936, to Frank and Anna Major. He was the middle child of five siblings. Dad left Newfoundland in 1956, by joining the Air Force. He arrived in Portage la Prairie in 1958 and met Mom at a local restaurant.

On leaving the Air Force Dad started to farm. Dad enjoyed the farm freedom and what a perfect fit for it, as he was an exceptionally hard-working man with a high standard of ethics. He took pride in the animals he raised. He found farming was not as profitable as he liked, and he had developed a lung reaction to the hay dust due to a bout of TB as a teenager. He then turned to trucking, although he did not like being away from home it did bring in a good living. The family of Cecil Major is very proud of the dedication to hard work and ethics that he passed onto us. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed by all.

We thank and appreciate the great care and compassion that Dad received at Oak Bank and Rosewood Lodge Personal Care Homes.

As per Cecil’s wishes no service will be held.
