She was predeceased by her husband Randy and her father and mother, Stanley & Fjola Bonkowski;
At the age of 68, Bridget lost her short battle to pancreatic cancer, and passed peacefully at the Gimli Community Health Centre.
Bridget was born November 17, 1953 in Arborg, MB, to Stanley and Fjola Bonkowski. She was raised on the family farm in Washow Bay, MB. Bridget spent a lot of her time in the kitchen with her mother who taught her a variety of life skills which Bridget perfected over the years to come. At the age of only 16 Bridget decided the farming life wasn’t going to be her future so she moved to Winnipeg, MB to attend Success Community College. It was during this time she met the love of her life Randy and on September 2, 1972 they married. In May of 1975 they moved to Leaf Rapids, MB where they raised their three children. Over the years Bridget had many jobs some of which included CIBC, Ross Deliveries, North End Cafe, Canada Post and driving bus for Northern Bus Lines. Bridget was mainly known for her home day care, and made everlasting memories and friendships. If you were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to taste her cakes they were the best in town! When Ruttan Mine closed in 2002, Bridget and Randy relocated to Riverton, MB back to her roots. She worked at the Co-op, Credit Union and a group home until she retired in March 2022. Bridget was also known for her community involvement and volunteering.
Bridget was a devoted hard working wife and mother. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing with her grandchildren in her kitchen. She had the best sense of humor and was always good for a laugh. Her kitchen was the heart of her home to all that knew her. There were many family vacations and camping trips while her children were growing up. They describe these times as the best childhood that one could possibly have! She cherished family winter vacations to Mexico and Jamaica and couldn’t wait to plan the next trip.
Rest in peace Bridget we love you.
Lovingly remembered by your family and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the ambulance and the staff of the Gimli Community Health Centre, as well as Lyndsay Palsson for all your care and support.
Respecting Bridget’s final wishes there will be a small service for family.
