Obituary for Betty Carol Pennell

Betty Carol Pennell
August 22, 1947 – Portage la Prairie, Manitoba
January 10, 2021 – Stonewall, Manitoba

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Carol Pennell
at the age of 73. Betty was second born to Walter and Irene Bieganski while living in Marquette MB and was given a police escort en route to Portage Hospital for her birth. She gave that special attention back to family, friends, and anyone she met throughout her life. Betty, along with her older sister and younger brother moved with their parents to the farm at Rossendale, MB. Betty attended Rossendale School and after completion she worked at the Manitoba Developmental Centre until her marriage to Doug Pennell on October 9, 1965. They resided in MacGregor where Betty worked at the MacGregor Hospital. She began her most favourite career “motherhood” with the births of Nyle and then Dawn. Motherhood and homemaking was natural for her. Their homes (wherever they lived or vacationed) were always the hub of family and social gatherings (food was plentiful!!). She attended the MacGregor United Church and was a dedicated community member, as well, was involved with the care of her very special sister, Debbie, and with the Pine Creek Residence in Austin where Debbie resides.
Betty and Doug enjoyed family vacations while the children were young; many trips to Calgary; camping and visiting throughout Manitoba, her coolers of food were legendary!
Betty’s love of a good time and her fun-loving and entertaining antics were shared equally with the “Birthday Girls”. She could be counted on to dress for any occasion whether it was a solo cup bra or a Mini Pearl hat, whatever was called for!
Betty and Doug spent many winters in Texas where they gained many lifelong friends.
They thoroughly enjoyed their trips to Las Vegas, Hawaii and Mexican Riviera Cruise.
Betty and Doug moved to Stonewall MB in 2018 where once again they attracted new friends.
Betty will be sorely missed by her soul-mate and husband of 55 years, Doug, her loving son Nyle and Jeannine (Boulet), her adored daughter Dawn (Bourque), and her treasured grandchildren Reece (Pennell), Mitchell and Renee (Bourque).
Betty is survived by her siblings Mary Anne Gates, Wally (Rosalie) Bieganski, Sister-in-Law Penny Parynuik; Judy (Jack Wiebe) Bieganski, Debbie Bieganski, Dean (Shirley Prukess) Bieganski, Cyndi (Lennie) Wallace, many Bieganski and Pennell cousins, and 2 generations of nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her dad, Walter Bieganski (1986), mom, Irene Bieganski (2009), son-in-law Gilles Bourque (2019), brother Albert (Bud) Bieganski (2019).
A small, immediate family service will be held on January 14, 2021.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when family and friends can all gather safely.
Special thank you to the staff at Stonewall Hospital for the recent care of Betty.
Thank you to the Cardiac Care staff at St Boniface Hospital for caring for her over the years.
Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
