Obituary for Bernice Ruth Finnsson

Bernice Ruth Finnsson September 4, 1944 – March 27, 2020

Bernice was born on Sept. 4, 1944 and entered Heaven’s Gates on March 27, 2020.
“You will be forever missed.”

A loving mother that was always there when you needed her. Bernice was a private person but always helped anyone that needed it. She would never give you the answer; but rather guide you to make the correct choice. Mom worked hard to raise her three children to make sure they were never without. She was employed at the Arborg Vet Clinic, the Arborg Co-op Farm Supply, and at the Arborg Credit Union, where she retired.

Mom was smart and witty, she loved to read and was a dedicated sports fan especially when it came to hockey, football, and curling. I would purposely call, just to see if she would answer the phone. It is amazing she didn’t have a permanent bruise on her leg from slapping it when the game wasn’t going right for her team LOL.

Bernice loved when family would get together. We would always roll out the door after the “feeding frenzy;” starting with breakfast, followed by snacks and lunch, and to be followed by the best cinnamon buns and ice box cookies for coffee, and then supper. If you were trying to lose weight … her house was not the place to be.

We could go on about her death-defying feats like skydiving, car racing, or roller blading…but anyone who knew mom would know I was lying. She lived a simple life and her greatest feat was taking care of her family and she did a darn good job!! We Love you, MOM!

Bernice is survived by her three children and three grandchildren, Lyle, Lance (Danielle and Tyler) Lori & Don (Kyra). Also mourning her loss are her siblings; Lorraine, Leonard (Christine), Linda (Kris), Colin (Karen), Sherri (Terry), Glenda, and sister-in law Gudrun as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bernice was predeceased by her parents Asgeir and Ruth, her brother Ronald, and brother-in-law Roger, nephew Raymond, nieces Michelle and Jena Lee.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff of Doctors, nurses and support staff at Ward 5 at the Tyndall Building in Selkirk for the most compassionate care given to Bernice during her stay there, and also to the Arborg & District Hospital Dr.’s and nurses while Bernice was there.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba or to the Arborg and District Ladies Health Auxiliary c/o Box 301 Arborg, MB, R0C 0A0.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Bernice’s life will be held at a later date.

Rest in Peace, Bernice, we love you and will always have you in our hearts!
