Obituary for Bernice Davies

Bernice Davies

Peacefully on Sunday March 19, 2023, after a long and happy life, Bernice passed away at the Arborg Personal Care Home at the age of 95 years. She was born on June 2, 1927, the youngest child of Leslie Robert and Annie Hards. After finishing school, she attended Business College in Winnipeg and then entered the workforce. It was during this time she met a handsome young man named Jack whom she married in 1958. Together they purchased a home in the Riverview area of Fort Rouge where they raised their three children and lived there until they moved to Arborg in 2016. Their love story lasted for 59 years until 2017 when her beloved Jack passed away.

Bernice was predeceased by her parents, sister Evelyn, her brother George (Ethel) and her brothers and sisters in law. She will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren: Linda (Henry), Shelly and Heather (Greg); Lloyd (Sandra), Dustin (Stephanie), Amber (Dylan), Colton and Brett; Lorne and his children Kyla (Dallas), Derek (Brooklyn). She will also be fondly remembered by Phyllis Hokanson and her family who were always very good to her and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice volunteered her time at the local community centre and working in her children’s school libraries. Her talents included baking and knitting. Her famous shortbread, lemon and butter tarts and beautiful knitted items were often donated to various fundraisers in the community. The grand kids could always count on Grandma’s homemade chocolate chip cookies and a package of Skittles from Grandpa when they visited. Bernice was a member of the Fort Rouge Golden Agers where she played Bingo, attended social events and travelled to Grand Forks with the group. Jack and Bernice also enjoyed regular outings to the casinos on both sides of the border. For many years they were hockey parents to their sons and when they moved to Arborg, they continued the tradition and often watched their grandsons play. Bernice became a regular at the Ice Dawgs games at the Arborg Arena. Mom loved all her grandchildren and was very proud of all their accomplishments.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Arborg Personal Care Home who took excellent care of Bernice. Donations to the Arborg Personal Care Home 233 St. Phillips Dr, Arborg, Manitoba R0C 0A0 would be greatly appreciated.

Forever
IN OUR HEARTS

THOSE WE LOVE DON’T GO AWAY,
THEY WALK BESIDE US EVERYDAY,
UNSEEN, UNHEARD,
BUT ALWAYS NEAR,
STILL LOVED, STILL MISSED
AND VERY DEAR.
