Obituary for Ann Heinrichs

ANN HEINRICHS (NEE LOEPPKY)

Ann Heinrichs (nee Loeppky) was born on 27 November 1942 at home, the fifth of twelve children; and her birth was registered on 28 November 1942 near Tolstoi, MB. She died quietly in her home kitchen on 27 February 2022 near Stonewall, MB with her loving and devoted husband by her side.

Ann enjoyed 56 years of marriage with her husband Al. They worked together as a team building two houses, travelling extensively to multiple continents, and enjoying many canoe and backpacking trips. They were active in their church and ministered in a variety of ways such as marriage counselling for twenty couples. Ann was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia ten years ago. This brought both great challenges and great joys to their relationship. It became apparent over time that this disease was a privilege that God had given them; their relationship grew as a result.

Family was a top priority for Ann; she had two children Maxine (spouse John, children Satu and Asherah) and Kenneth (spouse Nicole, children Sayla, Neige, Jada, and Brielle). As a mother and grandmother, she was loving, sincere, and always there when you needed her. She combined wisdom with wit and had a listening ear with a compassionate response.

Family for Ann was more than just the core four; it extended to her numerous siblings, in-laws, and friends. She played crokinole with precision at family gatherings and shared many outdoor adventures including mountain climbing and fishing (or, more precisely, watching fishing) with those she loved.

Although she was a consummate host, she enjoyed her alone time. She would go for long walks no matter the weather, read enthusiastically, craft expert needlework and quilting, and savoured her time in the yard and garden.

Ann was the head nurse of the Teulon Personal Chare Home in the 1980s and 1990s where she cultivated an atmosphere of professional and compassionate care. This care was reciprocated by aides who worked in her home over the last seven years. For their gift of time to her and to Al, we extend our deep appreciation.

Funeral services will be at their home church of 46 years, New Life Church in Stonewall, MB on Saturday 5 March 2022 at 2:00 pm. All are welcome. Public health orders will be followed; facemasks must be worn. The service will also be live streamed at the church’s YouTube channel New Life Stonewall.

Donations may be made in Ann’s memory to the Union Gospel Mission in Winnipeg where she served both in the kitchen and on the board.
