It is with heavy hearts and deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Ellen Hancock of Rosewood Lodge - beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She will also be missed by her family on the east coast - siblings, Gerald, Harold, James, Stella, Hilda, Joan and their families, as well as godchildren, Cathy and Jerry.

She was predeceased by her husband Roy Hancock, parents, Billy James and Clara, and siblings, Lorraine, Michael, Maurice, Billy, John and Norbert.

Ellen Louise McNamara was born March 10, 1933 in Evanston, Nova Scotia. After growing up on Cape Breton, she worked in Halifax for years before becoming a party organizer during the Korean War, where she met her future husband. She married Roy Walter Hancock on August 31, 1957, and together they raised their family from Halifax, Vancouver, Whitehorse, Calgary and Winnipeg before settling in Stony Mountain for 34 years. Ellen and Roy made Stonewall home for the past 14 years. Aside from being a devoted wife and mother, Ellen also worked for Carrington's Dental, offered a home daycare, and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish, the Catholic Women's League, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Wildlife Association. While dedicated to her family, and known for her delicious cooking and baking, Ellen also enriched her life with a love of music, travelling, gardening, camping and fishing, visiting with her neighbours and friends, and volunteering with special needs children. But ultimately she was most proud of, and best loved, her family.

We the family extend special thanks to Dr. Eggartson, Dr. Pinniger, Tara Lee Procter, the staff of Teulon Hospital for all their care over the years. A special thanks to the staff of Rosewood Lodge for all their care and compassion.

Cremation has taken place with interment to take place at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19 at Mackenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main Street, Stonewall.
