Obituary for Irene Zazulinski (Marchak)

After a courageous battle with cancer, Irene passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 28, 2018 at the age of 71.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her children Kevin (Kim) and Jennifer (George); her grandchildren Jada, Jacob, Eden and Eleena; sisters Jeannette (Richard) and Sharon (David); brother Leslie (Lydia); sisters in-law Huguette and Marilyn; brothers in-law William and Albert and many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and her four-legged companion Sabah.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Gordon; parents Michael and Frances; sisters Lorraine, Darlene, Betty and Helen; brothers Andy, Bert and Anthony; sister in-law Elizabeth; nephews Sheldon, Darryll and Brian.
Irene was born at Teulon hospital with her triplet sisters Jeannette and Lorraine on April 28, 1947. Irene grew up on the family farm in Narcisse, MB and attended school at the Three Sisters School, which was named after her and her triplet sisters. Irene later attended hair dressing school and began her career as a hair dresser in Gimli, MB. Irene married Gordon on August 26, 1967 and lived on the Zazulinski homestead in Fraserwood, MB where they raised their two children and worked on the family cattle farm. Irene would always prepare meals for her family and the guys coming in from feeding cattle or making hay. She would spend hours making perogies, cabbage rolls and apple pies for her family; and more recently, ‘zebra cake’ for her young granddaughters. Irene loved the fishing and camping trips to Lake St. George and she became the master at double filleting jackfish. She also loved gardening, feeding the birds, listening to the Portage radio station, casino trips with friends and playing cards. King Pedro was a favorite card game at the Zazulinski table. Irene was never one to give up in cards or in life. Bidding 62 without a King was how Irene played the game to the end.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Gimli Community Health Centre. Your care and compassion is greatly appreciated. Also thank you to all the family and friends who visited Irene at home and at the hospital.
As per Irene’s wishes, a private celebration of her life will be held. In lieu of flowers, Irene requested that donations be made to the St. Francis Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Jacob Zazulinski, George Horvath, Jerry Hayduk, Richard Huggins, Danny Sokil and Les Becker. Honorary pallbearer Roman Szczerba.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
