Obituary for Bonnie Elizabeth Black

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bonnie Black on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg.
Braving a long and courageous battle that never doused her incredible spirit, Bonnie will be lovingly missed by her husband Jack of 55 years, children Rod (Nancy), Derrick (Judy), Sean (Laura) and Ryan. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren whom she loved dearly Jessica, Erika, Braeden, Nicole, Tyler, Brody, Jesse, Sienna, Nicklas and Aiden.
Born and raised in Stonewall, Bonnie (Essery) along with her five siblings shared many childhood memories that were centered around her parents' (Robert and Coral) unwavering belief that "family always comes first". That adage continued throughout their adult lives‎ as they grew with their own families and carried on the tradition. Bonnie’s greatest joy was spending time with her entire family; Bob and Cookie Essery, Art and Jenny Essery, Alma and Ernie Neufeld, Pat and Earl Winn, and Lynn and Glen Massey. Get togethers were regular almost daily occurrences. Whether it was birthdays, anniversaries, holidays or just chances to be together, these moments were always anticipated and cherished by all. Daily phone calls to each sibling were rarely missed as Bonnie enjoyed catching up and sharing stories that usually ended with her infectious wonderful laughter.
Bonnie was a devoted wife and mother as she and Jack raised their four boys in the Winnipeg suburb of Transcona where countless and priceless memories were cultivated. She stayed at home to raise her children, always very active in her boy's lives, never wanting to miss a game or an event that they were involved in. She was always their biggest fan and let many coaches, referees and umpires know that. Her boys worshipped her.
That enduring adoration continued in the lives of her grandchildren. Whenever they were nearby or even spoke to her by phone or Facetime, her eyes would twinkle and her smile lit up the room. She would spoil them with love and they would always treasure the time they spent with their Grandma Bonnie.
A dedicated sports fan who loved music and animals, especially her faithful dog Holly, Bonnie was a great neighbor, a loyal friend and someone who always made the day brighter.
Her time with us was a gift for 75 wonderful years. She will be missed deeply by everyone who’s lives she has touched.
The family would like to thank everyone who has passed on condolences and best wishes.
We invite you to celebrate her life with us on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Canad Inns Polo Park, 1405 St. Matthews in Winnipeg. Viewing will take place at 9 a.m. with the service to follow at 10 a.m.
